Green Speak Monday: Steve "the Green Man" Nash

Posted by Brenna Malmberg

Steve Nash assists, on and off the court. This year, he passed 10,000 assists and as of today has 10,137. Off the court, you can't measure his assists in the same way, but the planet and communities can feel it. He's a green kind of guy who promotes recycling, lowering fossil fuel usage and conserving water.

One eco-friendly push he has been a part of is recycling used phones. You've probably seen this commercial of my all-star point guard.

In his own nonprofit, he also keeps a green theme. The Steve Nash Foundation promotes healthy children, which starts with the environment. Here are a few ways he recommends to help the environment.

  1. Hit the Road
Grab a bike. Walk. Ride the bus. Jump into the community and save fuel.
  2. Get a Smart(er) Car
No, not a smart car, even though I would like one of those. Instead, make sure your tires are properly inflated and high efficiency.
  3. Easy on the Wet Stuff
Turn off the water while you brush your teeth. Install low-flow faucets and shower heads.
  4. Recycle
Find out what your local recycle center collects and store it up all week. Then you can arrange to take it in, or your city might have a collection service much like the trash service.

Plus, he promotes the environment in the league. While at the Suns (before his time with the Lakers), he pushed for green initiatives.

Yeah, my point guard is pretty awesome. He is basically saving the world. Now he needs to save my team
