Green Speak Monday: Thankfully Reusing

Posted by Brenna Malmberg

November Wreath

A Thanksgiving reminder hangs on our door.

My November wreath testifies to the phrase reduce, reuse, recycle. Actually, many of my crafts do. I save old magazines, pretty strings from clothing tags and scraps of clean cardboard. You never know when a snip of something might be just what you need to finish off a project.

The "Be Thankful" wreath involves reusing items, which in turn reduces the amount of craft supplies required for my projects. For more than a year, I have been reusing my purple, Styrofoam wreath. Does this or this look familiar? By reusing it, I save my self and the environment. Woo, reusing.

Along with the circle, I chopped up magazines for decorative lettering to place on my recycled cardboard pennants. A little Mod Podge, and viola, "Be Thankful can hang and sway in the ever increasing brisk November air.

Now every day when we walk through our door, we are greeted with a simple reminder to be thankful during the turkey season. And one thing I am thankful for is the many uses of everyday items. I organize my writing utensils with empty plastic containers from water flavor packets. My new whiteboard was salvaged from next to the dumpster. My trash bag use to help me carry home groceries from Kroger. Small things we use every day can serve a greater purpose and have a second life. While tossing and buying is more commonplace, take a few extra seconds and look at how you can reuse the items around you for useful or crafty purposes. Comment below if you have any good ideas!

This November I'm thankful for the little things, even scraps of cardboard.
