Culver's Turns 27!

Posted by Brenna Malmberg

A few of you know how much I love Culver's. Delicious burgers, crispy fries and sweet custard. Plus, it is not at a bad price. I was first introduced to Culver's in college, and as Cole would tell you, I still love it.

The exciting news is that Culver's turns 27 today. So Happy Birthday, Culver's. We may or may not eat there today to celebrate the occasion, but with more than 400 Culver's nationwide, there is probably one near you. So if you have never visited, what better day to go than on its birthday. . . .

Capturing a Moment

Posted by Brenna Malmberg

Taking a photo is one thing. Taking a great photo is another.

Today, I had two photo assignments for the Lincoln Journal Star. One was a party by Milkworks for families, and the other was an Earth Spirit Celebration, which consisted of local vendors. The two events were completely different to take pictures at. The Milkworks party had cute little kids running in sprinklers and dancing to silly songs. The other was a dark room filled with healing beads and card readers. I walked into both with the same job, to capture moments of the events. . . .

Nebraska Driver

I am not identified with a new state: the state of Nebraska. I went to the DMV early in the morning, which I recommend if you want shorter lines and workers who haven't given out all their kindness for the day.

I join the state ranked 38 in total number of licenses issues with 1.2 million. The data did come out in 2004, but I don't think Nebraska has probably changed a whole lot. To see where other states rank, visit StateMaster.com. You can look up other stats by state. Leave a comment if you find any interesting ones. . . .

Allergy Shots

Posted by Brenna Malmberg

Every week for about 8 years, I have visited some kind of medical facility to get allergy shots. Not exactly how I like to spend 45 minutes of my life every week, but in the end, all of the pricks have make me healthier.

I am not the only one suffering from allergies. According to the American Academy of Allergy Asthma & Immunology, more than 50 percent of Americans suffer from at least one common allergy. Unluckily, I was allergic to all 42 allergens I was tested for back in 2004. That means I am just one of 168 million Americans affected by allergies. . . .

Saying No

Posted by Brenna Malmberg

Sometimes the hardest thing is saying no. Even when all the signs around you point to no, it is still the hardest to actually say it.

Today I had to turn down two jobs. I know, crazy to do in these times, especially right out of college. But they weren't right for me or for us right now. One required me to be gone traveling the country 10 to 15 days a month. I would go, interview, take photos, and return to write a story, mostly about construction types of fields. The other job was working all evening and weekends taking photos of church families and my pay was based off of how many of my photos I sold. . . .
