Manassas Real Flat Brenna

In case you were wondering if Flat Brenna looks anything like the real Brenna, well ... you be the judge.

Last weekend, we drove northeast to Manassas National Battlefield. You know, the usual — history, Civil War, outdoors — all of Cole's favorites. This is the site of the First and Second Battle of Manassas or Bull Run depending on which side you want to view it from, Confederate or Union respectively.

If you are like me, you probably don't know much about this battle(s). But, fun fact, this is the location where Thomas Jackson, better known as Stonewall Jackson, got his nickname. A brigade of Virginians stood behind him and held the location.

This mention of Stonewall Jackson reminded me of a trip we took last fall to Chancellorsville, Va. This battlefield marks the spot where Stonewall Jackson was shot by his own troops and died shortly after. If you missed Photo Friday about it last time, you can check it out now to get even more Civil War fun.

All right, that is a long enough history lesson for a Friday. On to the rest of our weekend adventure. Basically, the day went like most battlefield days. Cole reading; me photographing. Sadly, this day involved a bunch of rain and a rainy day event. Bad news: Hondie got rear-ended. :( We were fine and Hondie still runs, but it really was no good getting slammed and beat up. We didn't plan on being in a battle on the historic battlefield. No real update on any of that mess, so enjoy some more photos for this photo.

That old lady's house ended up right in the middle of the action.

Judith Henry was her name. She was old and bed-ridden, so she didn't have much choice but to die here during the war.

Next stop ... more battlefield.

From the Confederate side, you can view the old lady's house.

Basically, they turned him and his horse into superman. Look at those muscles.

After the main visitor's center, we drove around to the 12 other sites connected with the battles. This is the trench near the unfinished railroad.

We even found some wildlife near the end of our journey.

Old stone house you could go inside, and this is pretty telling of the rainy, battle day.

This judge thinks that Real Brenna and Flat Brenna are Identical and that it is hard to tell the difference between the two!
